Exclamation Windows 10 Update - Crashes Galore!

So I've been having some issues with Windows 10 as of recent. I couldn't figure out for a while as to what was happening, I figured maybe I downloaded a bad install or something like that.

Turns out that over the weekend Microsoft released an update to force all Windows 10 users to download security updates for their computers. This isn't a big deal for those of us that use the Microsoft Defender Anti-Virus (I don't recommend that), however, for those of us that don't use it, it turns out it's a bad deal. Being unable to deny Windows to update is a big issue for those of us who have software that should take care of the updated Windows components jobs. For example, a lot of Anti-Virus software 'clash' when they're both installed on a system, insisting that the other is a virus of some form.

Defender hasn't shown much issue with that in the past, but with this recent update, I'm once again questioning the abilities of Microsoft and their development teams.

So far the issues I've encountered are:

    After updating Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, being unable to start my computer, encountering a black screen with no error messages. When moved, the mouse cursor appears and flickers back and forth between a loading bar and a mouse cursor with a loading bar above it. It provides no actual loading to the system and no matter how long you wait it won't correct itself. To fix this;

    1. Jam down on that BIOS key.

    2. Force it to switch back to a factory reset.

    3. Loose all your data files, unless your system allows you to store it or you're storing it on a separate drive.

    4. Stick with whatever system your device came with until Microsoft fixes their garbage.

    ------

The second issues I've encountered (this apparently only occurs to a specific group of NVidia Video Card users) ((Yay!)).

If you encounter this issue, there is currently no fix. Only patience (or switching to a non-Windows based operating system (Like Linux)).

It occurs only when a user is using software that is video driver intensive, like a video game. It creates a fault within that driver that clashes with the Windows OS until the OS shuts itself down entirely. Once it crashes, the OS will reboot normally.

Easiest fix: Don't play video games.

Realistic fix: Play games in short dosages.

Both fixes are garbage, and you have to be patient and wait for Microsoft to actually fix their programming. There is data out there that I'm probably not going to read through because I'm busy, but if you find articles please link them here.

It sounds like we should stick with 8.1
I'm so on the fence about it.

With Windows 10 Enterprise or Education (basically the same thing), you can delay updates. I believe you can upgrade your Windows version without a reinstall. Windows has a built in Key Management System (KMS) for distributed rollout in Enterprise (and Education) environments. hint hint

Chief, I'd recommend making a backup of your recovery partition so you have something when Windows 10 eats it!

I hope you don't plan on getting a latest gen processor.

I'm still running Win7. Getting ready for the big upgrade - to Win8.1. I want VHDX support with the hypervisor and the Store.

Seems MS has a tendency to screw up every other Windows release. Vista compared to Windows 7. Windows 8 (never happened, even to MS) compared to Windows 8.1. Windows 10 to Win10 Anniversary Update. We're gonna get blindsided when they release Windows 2020.

My laptop has an I7 7th Gen Processor in it - meaning it needs windows 10. But Oh man I really don't like it. I find it freezes a lot when I'm typing and that alone drives me up the wall

I hadn't heard about it today until I saw it mentioned in a Wired newsletter article. It sounds like the WannaCry scare is mostly over for now. A lot of the ransomware type viruses that encrypt files can be decrypted with freely available tools online, put out by security research groups. As long as you use good anti-virus software you should be fine. Keep your PC updated, but Windows 10 will do that for you.
