    Been gone a while...

But I'm back to play again. I was wondering though if recent patching has caused any connection issues because my latency is pretty much not at a playable level anymore. My ping used to be around 20 to 30 but now its 200+ pretty much all the time. Other servers that used to be in the 20-30 range are now higher as well though still below 100. It's like I'm playing from China or something. My actual location is northern VA if that's at all relevant. Also NS2 Combat doesn't have this latency issue.

Any suggestions on what I could try to troubleshoot this would be much appreciated.

I've got Verizon Fios. I don't know the actual speed but steam downloads usually cap around 5 megabytes per second if that's any indication. And upload speeds on things like utorrent cap around 2.5 megabytes. I tried a few speed tests and they put me around 40 Megabits per second.

Run a traceroute to 68.70.169.220 - and see where it jumps at.
From there - contact your ISP - and ask them if they can re-route you. If you have a good tech on the phone, he should be able to assist with it. if you have some newb on the line, than you may have to request the ticket be escalated to Tier 3. - Even then it's a hit and miss.
    Look at this thread. http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-In...es/td-p/525091

Also - if you can paste your traceroute here, that would be appreciated.

    How to run a Traceroute
    Open the Start menu
Type cmd and then press the OK button to open a command prompt
At the prompt, type tracert 68.70.169.220 and press the Enter key

To copy the output, right-click anywhere in the window and select Mark. You can press Enter to copy all of the output, or select the text you want to copy and then right-click with your mouse. Paste the copied text by hitting CTRL + V.

    Trace complete.

Haven't contacted verizon yet, figured I'd wait to see what you had.
I'm assuming that step 13 is where the spike occurs and my problems arise.

There's definately an issue there. I would contact your tech support and ask them to escalete a Tier 3 ticket requesting that you be re-routed.
Give them the IP address that I gave you.
Let them know that NTSO is a datacentre in Chicago.
Cogentco are super cheap lines that most ISP's use - and as such they are fairly overloaded. They are also the primary transfer route of Netflix content.
Your ISP should be able to route you to the gameserver differently.

seems that a few other people on Verizon are getting the same thing for NS2
    Check this out

Update: I just emailed NTSO and asked them to check into it from their end.

I'm going to call the expert help line at verizon. Live chat was a total bust. I knew more than the guy on that.

I have comcast, and was getting repeatedly disconnected. I found the issue was just their dns servers suck. I switched to google's dns servers and that fixed it for me, should fix the same problem if you are having trouble connecting elsewhere as well, because it's likely whole blocks of ips going down with their routing tables. Anyway, if you know how to do that, you can stop reading here, if you don't. I'll give a breif description, failing that, just google it, plenty of guides out there.

Assuming you are on windows, first open up the network and sharing center, then click on the link in the top left to get to your adapters. Right click and go to the properties for whichever adpater you use to connect to the internet. Once you got that open, double click the Internet Protocol Version 4 to get to your ipv4 properties, then in the second section, manually set your dns servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 Those are google's, and they are rock solid the best publiclly available dns servers. If you want, google also has dns servers for ipv6, but that's not necesary to fix your problem. Good luck, and if you have any questions, come find me.
