Just want to bump this thread and add that I would be happy to host a rookie night if you folks are interested We could take a couple of hours weekly with new players to show them basics, get time in the comm chair, learn the maps, etc. I think this is a wonderful idea!

This is exactly why I want to run this kind of event - maybe once a month? Once a week (if there's enough support?) Give everyone a chance to try things out and get tips from the more seasoned players. Honestly, I'm the first to admit that I am pretty bad at this game, so there's probably a ton you folks could teach me! What I'd need is an admin/moderator on the server who is a more seasoned player than myself to take the reigns, so to speak. I'll be in attendance for the event (as long as it fits in with my work schedule), but I really want a commitment from someone willing to do a little more helping out than I could provide alone. Once we have a committed helper (or helper team!), we can work out the event details and start advertising on the server for visibility to non-regulars and new players. Any ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions? Sandwiches?
I think we've got this ironed out. But if there's anything that other Diamonds would like to improve on, or for us to push during training events, please let us know so we can plan!
