Post ** I Need Some Help With Configuration Of New Server ***

    Hello,

    I installed via server : FTB Direwolf20 1.6.4 1.0.21
    installed fine.
****McMyAdmin showed 1gb or ram in use after this install

Launched mcmyadmin - tried to install plugins - they did not install.
did research - found out about MCPC+

Uploaded MCPC+ to the server. renamed MCPC+ jar to craftbukkit.jar
set game mode in mcmyadmin to craftbukkit and restarted server.
mods installed - tested client - FTB is running with mods
****McMyadmin shows now 400mb of ram in use. ?????

    so now...
If I tell McMyAdmin to run as FTB - it shows as 1gb of ram in use - and mods don't work
If I tell McMyAdmin to run as craftbukkit - 400mb in use - and mods do work ( looks like FTB does too )

Not sure what's going on, really confused about this. spent countless hours scrounging forums.
Can anyone confirm for me that I did this correctly. I have followed online knowledgebases but got halted in a few areas. I found the above method on youtube - which seems to work - but that memory usage I'm really concerned about. IS FTB running with all mods at 400MB? If so - why does the vanilla install of FTB run at 1gb?

If someone can give me a hand. I'd really appreciate it.

I'm not familiar McMyAdmin (I used MineOS+ in the past).. (not familiar with MCPC+ or FTB for that matter.. more experienced with vanilla, old bukkit, and tekkit).. but I'm reading up on it... I have to wonder if the default allocation is simply set differently for FTB and craftbukkit...

I'm trying to use their "live demo" on the McMyAdmin webpage to verify, but I don't even see a way to set the default memory allocation for each... However that is strange that the one without mods has a higher ram usage than the one with mods... Ahh, upon googling I see it's set in a config file for McMyAdmin... So I'm guessing that's a global and not a server-specific setting like I was guessing... scratch that idea

Another possibility, and this is a little out there as well, has to do with the way Java works.. I believe Java allocates memory as it needs it, and nothing more... You're probably already familiar with the -Xms (starting memory) and -Xmx (max memory) parameters for java applications... perhaps something is going screwy with the starting memory allocation? I know I've set one to 1Gb Xms on a server I was running and once it fully booted it was only at about 500Mb... seemed strange, but it worked so I just ignored it. After logging a few people in it went up, but yeah.

Does it work just fine even though the memory allocation seems off? It might not be that big of a deal if it runs fine under load... Just my thoughts... Hopefully this gets yours or someone else's gears moving.

Currently the server itself is running fine, but there are no ftb related items, biomes or ores that are available. While mining a little I found several empty slots that seemed like they were meant for lead (usually spawns in an awkward 2-4 uneven spacing). None of the modded items are available to be crafted either. Even with admin priveledges to the server files themselves I do not see any of the files that Rusty has been messing with such as craftbukkit etc. I'm thinking it's something only the head admin has access to, or they are stored on his computer rather than the basic fragnet website.

I figured that MCPC+ optimizes things a bit differently
but with the mods not loading - it could be a permissions issue.

Seeing as you're familiar with mods ... Let me know if you want to / are able to put in some serious time to give me a hand setting up the bugger.

Rusty you my want to try deleting the world file and restarting the server to recreate the world file if you haven't already. when i made my server i had the same issue. but doing this help.

Sometimes the most obvious solution is the one we overlook.
