What makes ns2 stand out from different games? Why do you play it so much?

For me, I personally have more interest in ns2 than most games because of the teamwork, learning curve and extreme skill that is incorporated into the game. I haven't found a game that has so many different things to learn and how hard they can be to master them.

I'm not sure what makes me play the game so much. I guess its the mix of fps and strategy, and I've not really played a game apart from NS2 that properly combines the two. You would think playing hundreds of rounds of NS2 would get repetitive, but every round is different! I guess it's that feeling of not knowing what's gonna happen and who's gonna win. That's probably why people get bored and f4 when you know you're gonna lose.

The fact that it's an asymmetrical FPS is what gets me. Two completely different styles of combat and engagement makes the game never get boring. Throw in the strategy of an RTS and you've got the most unique online multiplayer ever made EVER!!!

It is a combination of all these things that makes it so hard for me to step away from the game for any extended period of time. If I couldn't expect each game to present some new, unforeseen challenge, then I would be way less inclined to continue playing it. Add that to the fact that there are two completely different teams - and that there are multiple play styles per team which each require lots of skill - and the whole thing is just so addicting.

I'd love to reply, but I'm too busy playing NS2.

Like its predecessor, NS2 is awesome. Two factions - Kharaa and marines. Both have technology, both use currency, and both want to dominate the same map. This gameplay is structured in such a way that real-time strategy is essential. Pre-planning arrangements five minutes in advance can be destroyed in seconds. Both commanders control the strategy over-all whilst supporting their teams from a top down perspective.

The primary reason why I play this game so much is first off - the community. Playing within a strong community of friends makes this game much more enjoyable. You get to learn and adapt to each persons behaviour in game. This I find absolutely thrilling. Learning people's tactics and then finding the best way to counter them. The other primary reason I'd say is that it's completely moddable. Changing the style of game-play can allow you to create a whole new game - within a game. I think this is still in infancy, but I believe we'll see many more game types in the future.

My secondary reason for playing this game is that it is extremely challenging. No two matches are the same as Stark mentioned above - and increasing your skill only heightens your options of evolution as alien. The more you play fade - the better you get - the more the team relies on you.

NS2 is nice to see in fruition and I'm always looking to see what new players bring to the table.

    What everyone else said!

The part that really gets me is two completely different factions. Nothing is the same about them but it works! How many other games are like that? Most FPS games use nearly identical teams but NS2 broke the mold.

Once you get over the initial learning curve there's always room for improvement. I think Rusty put it well when he said, "extremely challenging." Many games are challenging, some games are extremely challenging but NS2 just makes me want to improve my skills. No matter how many times I die it's still fun spawning back into the meat grinder!

NS1 was my Counter Strike, so when NS2 was launched it was only natural for me to pursue it.

Games where the players are the content have always gotten to me and the challenging nature of the game always adds to it, Natural Selection has pretty much the same reasons as to why I played Planetside and play Planetside 2 today.

One word, "aliens." I love playing as an alien! Also, every game is different so it doesn't start to feel stale after a while.
I do have to admit one thing though, I miss devouring people as an onos

Totally possible in NS2 if you play combat mod. I don't think people implement it in regular NS2 because once someone gets eaten the server begins to lag hard until the person is completely devoured. Why? I don't know, but from what I've heard it makes the game unplayable. Works great in combat though!
