Hey everyone, I'm making this thread to ask for your help in making a purchase. I need a new headset to use with my PS3 before online play starts for GTAV. I currently use the Razer Carcharias for PC gaming and I really enjoy them. I've had them since shortly after their release and besides a few concerns they do the job well. But now I need a headset for console gaming. Right now I'm looking at the new Astro A40 Audio System ("new" because I think they re-released a newer 2013 version) They have great reviews and seem to be the most popular high end gaming headsets out there. They work with PS3/XBOX360/PC/Mac which is exactly what I want, something that works across all platforms. Right now they are my number 1 pick since they leave me with the least amount of concern. I also looked at the Astro A50 system which is pretty much the same but wireless. That would be nice but wires aren't a big deal to me and I have long game sessions so the battery life worries me. Even if the battery life is long I would hate to need a charge mid-game. They also don't come with the MixAmp Pro thing that the A40s come with. I'm not sure the full functionality of this thing but everyone seems to love it so I think I want it lol. I think it allows you to hook up an optical cable and I want that so A40 is above the A50 right now. The other set I'm looking at is the Tritton AX Pro+. Also great reviews and very popular. The reason I'm looking at these is the true 5.1 surround sound. These have 4 speakers in each ear piece making the surround sound more realistic unlike the A40/50s which only have virtual surround sound. I don't know if they work across all platforms though. I imagine they do but the tech specs on inputs and setups can be confusing sometimes without costumer reviews addressing the setup process. ...but that's why I'm posting this here. Let me know what you guys think of my thought process so far. Am I on the right track? Did I miss something? Are there issues I'm not seeing? Or do you know of some other headsets I should consider? Price isn't too much of an issue within reason so please, give me your input. I need to order some soon so I can be ready for Octover 1st!! Thanks in advance!
I don't recommend wireless. But go with what you're comfortable with. Try to buy one locally with a return policy incase you don't like it. I use the Logitech G35 and love it. 7.1 surround with Dolby built in.
My $.02, why not buy something like this: http://www.headsetbuddy.com/playstat...Fabm7Aod5GwAWw and then run a USB switch or something along those lines, and hook it up to both. Then all you have to do is push a button when you want to switch between ps3 and computer. I assume both your computer and PS3 are hooked up to the same tv/monitor. Not 100% sure if you can do this without noticable (being the keyword here) quality loss is the only thing. Anytime you convert you loose quality, just a matter of how much. Could be so miniscule you won't even be able to tell. Something to think about. The a40 does look legit btw.

HRRRRMWHAAAAAAANT!
Looking at reviews of this product, I don't think it's actually meant for use with a PS3 like it says on that sketchy site you linked lol. They have the same thing on Amazon but it's meant to be used on say a laptop that doesn't have the 3.5mm jacks (like the new MBP). I already had that problem and bought a similar adapter for my MBP and it worked great. Never thought about using it with my PS3. Also, I don't have my PS3 hooked to my computer monitor. Just my TV. Looking at the reviews, the people who bought it for their PS3 have problems with it. It does not allow you to have full functionality of a headset. Some people say the sound will still come through the tv only. Others say there is no volume control. And if you have the slim PS3 (like i do) the buttons on the adapter will be blocked. So yea... I don't think it's meant to turn a standard PC headset into a fully functional PS3 headset, so I wont be going that route. Besides, I kinda want to replace the ones I have with better quality cans that are platform universal. Thanks for the option though. Wasn't a bad idea until I did a little digging. I'm pretty much set on the A40s at this point. Wireless is cool but not necessary and if they ever died mid-game, I'd throw a huge fit. So I want to avoid that scenario. Still open to suggestions though. Here's the adapter I bought for my MBP so I could use my old PC headset: http://www.amazon.com/iLuv-USB-Audio...s=iluv+adapter Worked perfectly. Simple plug-n-play. MBP immediately recognized it. Works great in windows and OSX. I can even switch the inputs/outputs independently on the adapter

I just googled quick and found something similar to what I meant lol. I prolly did link garbage haha, but you get the idea of my post.
So I went with the A40s. Pretty badass in almost every way. Had trouble with the mic at first but I finally got it working. Also ordered some custom diamond duuuuummb shit son. Shitty phone pics. I used Wigglys design for one and I hope he doesn't sue me.
