View Full Version : Where did the mouse come from?

Back in the day - you remember the monochrome apple devices?
There were no mice back then!

But Xerox had one. Oh yes - they were a big player back then. They in fact created the mouse.
The Firmware was powered by none other than Linux.

Now Xerox was contractually obligated to show Apple all its projects. They tried to hide the mouse from Apple, but Apple sniffed it out and demanded to see it. After that, Apple developed a mouse that was far cheaper and more functional the the Xerox which couldn't even drag diagonally.

Apple claims they developed the mouse.

Well I'm not taking any side here but this is called capitalism and it's a great example of how technology, business, and marketing advance. The claim you say apple made of "developing the mouse" would be true if we follow the definition of "developed". Competition and greed can be very positive to the consumer market. Your post makes Apple out to be the bad guy but I didn't read it that way. This is just business and Apple isn't the only one doing it this way. Microsoft has plenty of skeletons in the closet. Apple's just the guy in the spotlight and they don't mind being there when they have these huge legal battles over things some would consider redundant.

Agree'd, Microsoft is no angel here either, and it is "simply business." Without that greed, aggressive marketing and "tweaking/perfecting" other's idea's we would not be anywhere close technologically to where we are today. It's a nice double edged sword, we get cooler/better/faster technology as consumers and sometimes credit is not given to the right developer/designer where it is due.
